Lolegaon is a small town in the Kalimpong district of West Bengal. It is situated at the very end of Himalayan Ridge at a comparatively lower altitude of 5500 ft than other sightseeing points of this region. Because of such location, the climate here is quite pleasant throughout the year and receives a good amount of rainfall during monsoon.
The flora of Lolegaon has the characteristics of the semi-evergreen vegetation with pine, oak and cypress forest of Eastern Himalayan foothills. You can find many types of orchids and various species of other flowering plants here. As for the fauna, Lolegaon is especially famous for giving excellent opportunity of bird-watching. Other than that, some endangered Himalayan animals like black bear, mountain goat, and some species of butterflies are seen here.
The nearest railway station from Lolegaon is at New Jalpaiguri at a distance of 93 km. The airport in Bagdogra, at 96 km distance, connects the location with the whole country. Usually people take bikes or cars from the nearest city of Siliguri at 87 km distance and make trips to Lolegaon via NH10. It can also be accessed by road from Kalimpong, which is only 22 km far.
